Fenugreek – Trigonella foenum-graecum L., or Greek hay or Greek clover is a herbaceous annual plant, grown in the Mediterranean, Central Europe and Poland. This plant usually grows up to 60 cm tall. It blooms in June and July, and pollinated by an insect gives off a sweet, slightly bland spicy smell. Although fenugreek is used mainly in medicine, it has recently been used in the kitchen and cosmetics.

In cosmetics, fenugreek is used to care for problematic, seborrheic and acne skin. However, she gained the greatest fame thanks to the fact that she strengthens the hair. An infusion of fenugreek seed infusion prevents hair loss and stimulates the growth of new strands, including baby hair. In addition, it soothes scalp irritations.

Treatment Properties

Fenugreek has many valuable properties. First of all, it works to lower blood sugar levels. The seeds of this plant have 20-30% of mucous substances, which include, among others from galactomannans. These substances have an effect on slowing gastric emptying and also minimize postprandial glucose increases. Fenugreek is also recommended for people with cholesterol problems. Properly used, it contributes to lowering the concentration of total cholesterol, “bad” LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and VLDL – very-low-density lipoproteins. All thanks to steroid saponins, which intensify cholesterol metabolism and its conversion in the liver to bile acids, whose excretion stimulates.

How to use it?

Application

Fenugreek can be used as a spice in particular for veal, mutton, poultry and fish, infusion, decoction or hair. This last application is gaining more and more followers.

Recipe for a hair loss treatment

3 tablespoons of ground seeds pour 150 ml of water, boil and let stand for half an hour to cool. Rub the resulting product into the hair and then wrap it, e.g. with food film, for two / three hours. After this time, we wash the hair. Such a procedure performed once every 7 days will allow you to observe a reduced amount of hair loss after a month.
